Summer is here! And so are all the good things associated with the season - mangoes, holidays, parties and loads of fun! It is also time to get together with friends and family. What is the best way you can think of? In the current day, most of us do not make time for this as much as we should. Why not invite them all for a summer party? Are you confused about how to manage it? Here are a few tips, which will help in planning for a great summer party in Mumbai.

1.     When will you have the party?

Plan a convenient date so that you may have maximum turn out at your party. More the friends, more the fun. Check with your friends if a date around the weekend is workable and fix it.  You could do this activity a few weeks in advance so that all your friends may keep their calendar free for your date. Send out invites or give a call to invite them all.

2.     Whom are you inviting?

Consider whom all you will be inviting to the party. Is it going to an only adult’s party or bring the whole family kind of party? This will help you in planning the theme for your party. For e.g. a Dracula theme or a casino theme may not go well with guests of all ages.

3.     Choose the theme

Get creative and go all out with a great theme for your party. Choose bright summery colours. Make it fun and interactive. If you choose a pirates theme, you could ask all your guests to dress in pirates costume, bring their “treasures” (gifts) for each other to play a pirate’s version of Secret Santa and organise an exciting treasure hunt to keep them engaged. 4.     Select a good party venue

Find and select a great party venue, which would be appropriate for your theme. Speak to the venue coordinator to get a decorator to help you do up the venue as per your theme and ideas. 5.     Set up a refreshments bar

You may set up a refreshment bar to keep the drinks flowing. Choice of drinks is up to you. Cocktails or mocktails can be equally awesome. Consider a fusion of ice golas in the cocktails. 6.     Turn off the heat

If you have an outdoor venue for your daytime summer party, it would be a good idea to turn on the sprinklers. A fresh spray of cool water in the hot summer is always fun and welcome.

7.     Pool Party

You could plan to host your party at a poolside. Do not forget to mention “bring your swimsuit “in your invite. A pool party in the summer provides that welcome respite from the heat. The invitation to take a refreshing dip in the pool is something your guests will not be able to resist.

8.      Lots of food

Plan with your caterer, for a spread of quick bites and more. Summer can drain off energies faster than anything can. You could include seasonal produce like juicy fruits, berries, fresh veggies etc in every course of your menu. Think Sandwiches, pasta with veggies, fruit punches, ice creams with fresh strawberries and the list goes on.

9.     Décor

Choose bright colours to go with your theme. You could use coloured – banners runners, ribbons, and balloons to decorate your venue. Hang fabric or paper ice creams cut outs on a string leading to the desserts bar. Use colourful paper flowers or if budget permits, fresh flowers to decorate the corners or the tables. Alternatively, hire a decorator and explain your vision to him to enable him to execute your ideas at the party venue.

10.  Music

Do not forget music is the soul of any party. Plan and prepare a good list of music for your party well in advance. Again, consider the taste and suitability to your guests. 11.  Evening party

An evening party can be made equally exciting by hosting it under the night sky. Apart from lighting up the party area, make sure you hang little decorative lights all over the place. Candle and lamps can be used creatively. Consider floating candles in large decorative bowls and Chinese lanterns hanging from the trees or lampposts etc. 

12.  Movie night

Depending on the feasibility, this idea could be implemented. Plan dinner, drinks and a movie with friends in open air. A garden or rooftop venue could be used for this purpose. A big projector screen, comfortable seating arrangements with cushions and /or sleeping bags (if you plan to sleep over). To make things a bit exciting, pitch up tents!
